Hello

Why you shouldn’t watch New Moon

Before I start, I just want to say that I’m not a very good critic because I can’t seem to separate my Christianity from my being a movie watcher and movie reviewer.

It was a Monday night when we watched New Moon, since all cinemas made it real hard for us to watch it in the weekend because all of them were fully boooked. I was ‘reserved’ by my friend to watch this, surprisingly since January. And so I went and gave in to her request… Hayyy…. It seemed to me like it was a good movie since tickets were sold out everywhere.

I haven’t read the book, and I do not plan to. So we made ourselves comfortable, they bought some popcorn and chips and I quietly waited for the movie to start.

You have to understand, my stand in ‘love’ is not how this world sees it. The movie started out with a very wrong sense of love and ended with such as well. All in all, I can say I did not enjoy it because it was not the right movie for my spirit. You can hate me for it, saying it’s unfair or it’s just ‘Fiction’ but I say ‘Fiction’ is a very dangerous word we have used to brand lies that are believable and seemingly logical even to the emotions of our soul.

The acting was okay, the cinematography was nice, the sounds… well…. They’re good enough, especially the music they played when Bella was in the room and the camera was twirling around showing that the months were passing her by. The story… Well it just went by the book, so I’d say it appeals to the readers. It might be a good movie for most, but for me, it’s not. Why?

Because ‘love’ is something our generation has been struggling with dangerously. It has been twisted and bent to something so evil, almost demonic in essence, that when we top it off with a movie that has a message such as this, it is already more than poison to the minds of the youth.

New Moon Book

New Moon Book

My generation is devastated with love. It is unknowingly struggling violently to know the meaning of real love. LOVE IS MY GENERATION’S GREAT WAR, it is my generation’s GREAT DEPRESSION. I do not exaggerate when I say this. This movie and story is such a big deception branded under the safety of the word ‘fiction’ that I was so distrubed when I was watching it.

I made a decision to change the world. Someday, I’ll get the chance to share God’s message to the world about real ‘love’. Someday I’ll get to share God’s message to the world that ‘Fiction’ is a dangerous thing to hide under. Someday, I’ll show the world that apart from Jesus, there is no hope, there can be no real ‘love’.

Sean- I think you evaluated the movie very well. New Moon is a good way to engage people and expose lies about “love” and show them what true Godly love is.

    hi sean…=)

i was just wondering…. as Christians, is it safe to watch movies like this??? i mean, the idea of love has already been founded in us through God… is it wrong to watch it just for the fun of it?? im really curious about this… and as a matter of the fact, my dad and i kinda debated about it… ang point ko lang is that cant Christians watch things like this as a past time since we know what is right and wrong through God’s guidance???

Well… If you ask me… I believe I have wisdom in this and am ‘well-founded’ in my Faith and knowledge of God. I have the Holy Spirit and I can take it as a form of ‘entertainment’. But I find myself greatly disturbed by the movie EXACTLY BECAUSE I have God’s wisdom, Spirit – I have knowledge of Him and faith in Him etc…
I think it is when you don’t have (or aren’t sensitive to) the Holy Spirit that movies like these just become ‘entertainment’

People might not agree with me on this. But I believe it’s not me speaking when I say this.

my dad also said that we should be careful in watching this movie because it ‘romanticizes’ vampires and werewolves, beings that are traditionally depicted as evil.

you do have a point… (made me think tlga) is it wrong to be able to “separate” (well, not exactly separate… i hope you know what i mean) myself from what i read or watch???

reading has been one of my hobbies…. ive been a book reader ever since i was a kid… im mostly into sci-fi/romance/suspense… i also have a books that are of fiction and at the same time it teaches Christian values…. and when i read “non-Christian” sci-fi/romance/suspense books, i dont dwell on the things that i have read…. i merely read for the fun of it (the story)… same goes with movies….

napaisip tuloy ako… is there something wrong with me???

Hmmm well like it or not, movies and the things we read influence us to some degree. It will always remain in our minds. That’s why the Bible tells us to be wise.

    I won’t dictate what’s right or what’s wrong.

Life is simple: Just ask yourself, “What is the wisest thing to do?”

Maybe that’s already too subliminal for most people. But it has truth in it. Thanks Binsuy!

Hwooo~!! I am officially discouraged to watch this “beautiful” movie because every man(including some woMAN) says it SUCKS… BIGTIME! HAHA! marami lang na entice sa abs ni Jacob. The only reason why I’ll watch this movie is the same reason I watched “Twilight” — Critique it in a marxist perspective. Thumbs up bro!

Avoiding movies because its “worldly” and treating movies just for “entertainment only” are both problematic for Christians in my opinion. As I posted on my blog http://thelivingrice.blogspot.com/2009/11/new-moon-now-showing-in-philippines.html#comments, as God’s agents in the world, Christians shouldn’t shut away or lose ourselves in any art forms. Movies is here to stay and its already part of culture. How can we engage with non-believers if we dont know their culture nor speak Godly wisdom through it. I believe we should be master and train our eyes to see movies in different perspective – as a new way of delivering beauty, challenging the lies of the world and the truth found in scriptures.

Laughtrip nung abs part ni Jacob. May commotion e. LOL

True what you said, pero kilig kasi, may idea ang mga tao about having the perfect man. Yun ganun ba, hmm, setting a standard to find love, dapat si God ang standard di ba di ba!

The love they portrayed in the movie is just plain wrong…
And the sad part is, women go crazy for it in it’s entirety. Where have all the real men gone? Women are now turning to monsters for romance hahaha! Kidding

I think the same goes for ‘jokes’ just like what Jack Black did in opening of the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards

Well it is, in fact, the most powerful emotion that drives our generation. That’s why the media uses it much to their advantage. They twist it and bend it to new and exciting things which are leaning towards what the Bible explicitly calls sin.

To some extent, that’s true. At least, not all men. Some are turning to be very passive and feminine. And that’s not good either.
