We all know the story of the fall of man. When Adam and Eve were in the garden and they met the serpent who talked his way into letting Eve pluck a fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil and had her eat it. Only Eve and the serpent were doing the talking at the time, so where was Adam?

It

It's usually the good things in our life that causes us to sin

The Bible says that Adam was also there with them. He was watching what was happening all along. He didn’t stop Eve from talking with the serpent or from eating the fruit. Why? What was he thinking?

Adam loved Eve too much.

Adam didn’t stop Eve because he was so mysticized by her, he was so encaptured by her beauty that he didn’t want to tell her to stop and just trust in God more than the serpent. Adam saw the master of beauty – the glory of God, and yet at that time he was more captured by the beauty of Eve. Forgetting God altogether or setting Him aside.

So why did Adam eat the fruit?

Adam realized that Eve has fallen when she ate of the fruit. He knew that what she did would certainly displease God and was an act of outright disobedience. So what did he do?

He probably thought “My wife, my love, has fallen. I will be left alone and we will part. No, I do not wish to separate from her.” And so he decided to eat of the fruit himself. He loved Eve too much – more than God. He actually made Eve an idol at that point in his life.

We make idols here and there especially of the things God has blessed us with – money, career, health, our relationships, family, material things, reputation, etc. We were blessed with these things which are good, but then we put them above God and we tend to forget His greatness. How? Because when God blesses us with these things, we tend to neglect our relationship with Him little by little.

When we enter a relationship, we sacrifice our quiet time for texting that person. When we’re climbing up the corporate ladder, we work so hard we neglect to pray and read His word. When we’re blessed with a new laptop, we spend too much time on it, forgetting about our Bible and our God’s goodness and glory.

Eve was not Adam’s fall. His fall was putting her above God. Do not make the same mistake in your life. The blessings in your life from God are good – it’s your decision if it will remain so.

Adam had a choice. You do too. I pray may you make the right one.
